Who can install ?
Only qualified and licensed professionals should carry out home automation installations to ensure safety, compliance, and reliability. Below are the regulations by country, to help you know what to look for :

-
Australia: All fixed wiring must be completed by a licensed electrician. Integrators can handle system design, programming, and commissioning once proper state electrical licences and industry accreditations (e.g., CEDIA, KNX, ACA) are in place.

-
Ireland: Domestic electrical work must be performed by a Registered Electrical Contractor (REC) under Safe Electric. Integrators typically partner with RECs and hold relevant CEDIA or KNX certifications for system commissioning.

This ensures all installations meet legal electrical standards and maintain client safety within both Australian and Irish contexts.
Electrical Installation standards
All electrical work for home automation must follow national wiring regulations to ensure safety and compliance.

-
Australia: AS/NZS 3000:2018 (Wiring Rules), enforced via state law.
-
Ireland: I.S. 10101:2020 National Rules for Electrical Installations (NSAI)

These standards guide integrators and electricians in meeting legal safety and performance requirements before any system handover.
Handover requirements
When recommending or handing over a High-End Home Automation (HeHA) system, occupational therapists should ensure integrators provide complete and compliant documentation. It is essential that the OT or integrator provides the following :

-
OT assessment & risk analysis linked to client goals.

-
Scope, quotes, and clinical justification (NDIS/HSE/Local Authority ready).

-
Electrical certificate of compliance (AU: state requirements; IE: Safe Electric Completion Certificate).
-
As-built drawings / device map (what’s installed, where, and how it’s powered/controlled).

-
User training + maintenance plan (who to call, routine checks, safety overrides).

-
Privacy notice & consent record (what data is collected; how to opt out).
